Reintroducing Centuries Old Manuscripts to Our Contemporary Discourse on History

Renowned author, political scientist, Samajwadi Party leader, and the prince of the Mahmudabad Kingdom of Lucknow, Ali Khan Mahmudabad dons many hats. He was taking up a gargantuan mission when he decided to digitise all the Arabic, Urdu, and Persian manuscripts that were collected and stored in his palace through centuries. Mahmudabad was one of the largest Taluqdaris under the Mughal rule and the House of Mahmudabad traces its lineage to the Banu Taim – the tribe of the first Caliph of Islam, Abu Bakr. Here is a glimpse into Ali Khan’s efforts to preserve history for posterity.
